The Glasgow City Cup has been running since the year 2000. Members of the local Scottish Youth Football Association decided that Glasgow needed a Youth Football Tournament for both Scottish and Foreign Teams and so the Tournament was born.

Regional Secretary Jim Smith had taken a Club Side to the USA Cup Tournament in the summer of 2000 and this Tournament was the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Jim came back and discussed the idea of having a Tournament in Glasgow as any Tournaments had long since ceased. With the help and support of the Regional and National offices of the SYFA and Glasgow City Council, the idea grew and the Tournament was started.

Over the Year’s many teams have used the Tournament as an excellent way to start their pre season and we have seen Teams from overseas with FC Flora attending from estonia in 2004 and winning the Under 15 Age Group. There has also been a regular contingent from both Republic of Ireland and England as well as visitors from Norway and Canada.

The Tournament is held at the Glasgow Green Football Complex which boasts 7 high quality Grass Parks on the one site and has played host for the past 7 years. In addition ior 2009 we ahave dded the new Toryglen Regional Football Complex next to Hampden Park  which has 4 new 3rd Generation Astrograss pitches.

As mentioned above, we have seen Teams participate from Estonia, Norway, Ireland, Canada, and England, all these teams have sent back positive feedback about their time at the Glasgow City Cup and in the City of Glasgow itself. In 2007 Athlone and District from Ireland won the 16’s Age Group and returned in 2008 with a larger contingent and again won the 16’s age level. In addition because the Tournament was moved back one week we had teams from England and Europe. We also welcomes First Mobile Sports Academy from Canada who visited the 2008 Tournament as well as Kobotn from Norway and North Dublin Schoolboys from Dublin.
